PALLAVI SAXENA

STATEMENT
My practice is about the imperfection of daily life, I am inspired by the routine of my environment. It is often a translation of visual shapes, patterns interconnected with human interactions and bonds that I observe in and around me .This is done through color, movement, biomorphic shapes and figures, and the laying down and scraping away of multiple layers of mixed media.
The pandemic made me question my life in general, I saw how most of our biggest struggle was "Staying home" It started to hit me, across ages , sitting at home enjoying home, living the daily life - is a scare no one wants to admit. During the time I also had to leave India, and settle in a new country, as I moved I missed my roots, and this year saw me incorporating & experimenting in my process with food like- Rice, coffee, tea, mediums like -charcoal, oil sticks, acrylics and agents like surfactants, paste and types of varnish and additives.
In the art process, I started incorporating traditional Indian folk art strokes like Gond lines, the Warli kind of stick figures , Mughal miniatures and motifs but in asymmetrical abstract way.
Largely focused on painting and sometimes collage, my practice allows me to dreamily explore an imaginative inner world connected to a routine everyday life. For me the single thread in my art across the past 2 years is "our daily lives" we all live but run away from.
