Undercurrent 1
Undercurrent I
Inner Landscapes Series
Undercurrent is the newest sub-series within Inner Landscapes, a collection exploring the landscapes we carry within our hearts.
This first painting begins with a place that no longer exists in quite the way as you remember it. Perhaps it was a mountain seen on a journey, a winding path, a quiet morning, or a view that stayed with me long after I had left.
Over time, memory softens its edges. The colours shift, details disappear, and the landscape slowly transforms. What remains is not the place itself, but the feeling it left behind.
On difficult days, when we close our eyes and return to those memories, we are rarely transported back to the exact landscape. We return instead to its atmosphere—its sense of calm, wonder, longing, or belonging.
This painting is an attempt to give that invisible place a form.
It is a landscape that exists only in the heart, where memory and imagination meet. The undercurrent is not the mountain, the river, or the path—it is the quiet feeling that continues to flow beneath them all.
